The office offers Emergency Home Energy Assistance for the Elderly Program (EHEAP), helping low-income households, with at least one person aged 60 and over when they are facing an energy emergency at home. A home energy emergency can result from a late utility bill, lack of fuel or wood, or receipt of a shut-off notice. They pay for emergency energy-related expenses such as home heating and cooling during the heating (October to March) and cooling (April to September) seasons. Eligible families can receive one benefit per season, up to $600 per season. Beneficiaries of the scheme receive vouchers to purchase blankets, portable heaters, and fans. The program can also help to pay for repairs to existing heating or cooling systems or reconnection costs. Eligibility: Documented heating or cooling emergency, at least one person age 60 or older in the household, and an annual gross household income equal to or less than 150% of the federal poverty guidelines.
