Central MA Deaf Senior Center

695 Southbridge Street
Worcester, MA - 01610
(774)490-9956
The Massachusetts Senior Center for the Deaf was founded in 1989 by a group of people who wanted a place where they could get together to socialize, perform functions and, most importantly, play BINGO! The first meeting of the newly formed CMDSCC was held on June 15, 1989, at St. John's Church in Worcester, Massachusetts. The group's first officials were President Donald Carter, Vice President George Trudeau, Secretary William Crowley, and finally Treasurer Beatrice Crowley. The Board of Trustees included Rita Vaillancourt as President, Rella Bernier as 1st Trustee, Shirley Ovitt as 2nd Trustee, and Raymond Boulanger as 3rd  Trustee. The newly elected officers were soon sworn in by Fred Jarvis. Kathy Andreoli was the first coordinator. Bingo is an important part of this organization to this day! In 1989, bingo was 25 cents per strip, 10 cents per card, and 25 cents at a full house. On November 16, 1989, the group took their first to Wright Farm in Rhode Island for Thanksgiving. On December 14, 1989, the group had its first Christmas party. On February 15, 1990, the 1st Social Valentine's Day took place. On the 15th 1990  was the 1st Easter socialist. All these traditions still happen today. The second election of officials was held in June 1990. New officials include President Ernest Owitt, Vice-President George Trudeau, Secretary Donald Carter, and Treasurer Beatrice Crowley. Shirley Owitt was the chairman of the trustees. Trustees were Maureen Hastings and Barbara Tandy. On August 17, 1994, the 1st trip to Plymouth Rock took place. In 1996, the group moved to St. Matthew's Church in Worcester, Massachusetts, on Southbridge Street and have been here ever since. Many things have changed over the years since the organization was founded, but the years have been filled with new, exciting events, and new members! ..
