Ralph J. Froio Senior Center

In 1993, the Council on Aging moved from Bradford Street to 330 North Street upon completion of the reconstruction and renovation of the former Capitol Theater. The City of Pittsfield renamed and dedicated the building "The Ralph J. Froio Senior Center " in honor of this long time civic leader who spent countless hours in volunteer service to his community, especially in senior citizens affairs. Through his many years of service, Ralph J. Froio served as Chairman of the Council on Aging as well as for countless other charitable organizations and causes. The Ralph J. Froio Senior Center is a handicapped accessible facility in that is within walking distance of several housing projects and is available by bus. The facility is 15,000 square feet in total area and consists of four floors. In the basement, there is a woodworking shop, ceramics shop and a board room. Just beyond the lobby on the first floor, you will find a coffee shop and lounge area, a computer lab and our administrative offices. The Lee Senior Center is on the corner of Crossway and High Streets in Lee. As one enters Crossway St., the first door on your left is the entrance to the Senior Center. Although the Senior Center is located in the Elderly Housing, Crossway Village, it is available to all the elderly in Lee as well as the residents of the Village. Our rules consider anyone over 60 years of age to be a Senior citizen. In the Center we have computers, a pool table, an organ, a piano, tables, and comfortable chairs. Puzzles are available as well as books to read. Lunches are also served at the Center. We encourage small groups who might like to play cards, knit, have a place to meet, chat or whatever to join us at the Center. We can assure you that you can not find a more comfortable and welcoming place. The Council is committed to providing services and programs to community elders 60 and older. The many and varied services and provided by this office include transportation, nutrition meals and education, exercise programs, and social programs. Health clinics are offered through the Porchlight VNA/Home Care, and a state trained Health Insurance Counselor is available to help with Medical insurance assistance. The COA works with Elder Services of Berkshire County and networks with other organizations service to the elder community and their families. The Council operates with a Director, Secretary, transportation driver and Board along with volunteers to provide services to the community..

Hours: Wednesday from 10a-2pm, 3:30p-5:30pm. All are eligible. You must be 18 years of age to register. In order to receive USDA foods you need to be enrolled in one of the following government programs: SNAP, WIC, MassHealth, SSI, Welfare, Fuel Assistance, Vets Aid, Head Start, AFDC, or fall into USDA income guidelines. However, there are plenty of other foods available even if you do not meet the USDA requirements . Please register in the basement of the First Baptist Church on the corner of Main and Eagle Streets.
