The Council on Ageing develops, promotes, and provides services for Dartmouth's older people, people aged 60 years and over. The nine members of the Council are appointed for three-year terms overlapped by the Selectmen. The Centre is a multi-purpose. The Regional Elderly Nutrition Program offers meals at the center every day of the week. The services and programs in place are many and varied: direct case management, transportation, health clinics, food and other shopping trips, senior citizens' clubs, and tax assistance, to name a few. The Council continues to serve the large community: Clinics, Computer Classes, Municipal Senior Identification Cards, Food Bank, Blood Bank Coordination, and many other public service channels. The loyalty and dedication of their staff and many volunteers allow us to provide one of the best Centres and Aging Councils in the country. Along with regular food pantry hours on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:30 a.m. 12:00 p.m., the Griffin Street pantry will now run a night-time pantry event for people who have been unable to go to normal pantry hours due to work obligations. The new night pantry will open the first Thursday of every month from 5 p.m. 7 p.m. If the first Thursday is a holiday, the pantry will open on the second Thursday.
