Helping Hands taking care of both male and female victims of child abuse, abandonment, and/or neglect. Residents are placed with the agency by various counties throughout the state by the Department of Social Services of South Carolina (DSS) or the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ). Children placed here by DSS generally include those who have been abused, abandoned, and/or neglected. Children referred by DJJ include nonviolent offenders. Children up to the age of 21 have a safe, nurturing environment that promotes positive development. In order to promote positive development, residents are provided with shelter, nutritious food, clothing, and access to educational, medical, and mental health services. Residents are also registered for school or preschool programs. While they are placed here, every child has every chance to prosper and live a fulfilling and balanced life. ..
