The agency was incorporated in 1977 with the intention to be operated as a Senior Center having as its central focus "Seniors Helping Seniors". There are two programs Operated by Harvest Years - a Shopping Program and a Senior Center Program. Both programs fulfill the Harvest Years, Mission: To Build, Maintain and Improve ones abilities "AS A WAY OF LIFE, for more than 40 years. The Senior Center Program provides a friendly, supportive, family-like environment in which social, recreational, educational and daily meal activities occur on weekdays for individuals who are 55 years of age and older. The Shopping Program has evolved from the original Brown Bag Program, providing commodity food for home bound seniors. Presently, the Shopping Program, is serving 136 home bound Kent County, DE seniors, it provides assistance to individuals with their grocery shopping and concurrent stops for the clients bank, pharmacy or post office needs. A $3.00 trip fee was started in October, 2003 to partially defray the costs of the Shopping Program. Prior to that time the program had been operated on a donation only basis.
