The mission of the Joseph Meyerhoff Senior Center is to meet the needs of older adults and their families, with care and dignity, by providing the community a variety of programs and services. The senior center began offering programs in 1978 and the Jewish Federation of South Broward built the Meyerhoff Senior Center in 1987 as a tribute to Joseph Meyerhoff, one of world Jewrys leading philanthropists through the generosity of Meyerhoffs family, who made their home in Hollywood, Florida. The Center is centrally located in the City of Hollywood and shares a campus with Federation Plaza, a 123-unit HUD Housing project for seniors with low incomes. The building has meeting rooms, an art studio, a kitchen facility, a stage area, a library and a separate entrance for our Adult Day Program. The building is a bustling place, with activities for adults supported by a loving and caring staff. Justine Hoo, the executive director, recognizes that there are many seniors in the area that are isolated and depressed. But there is a solution to those feelings. The staff at the center has a philpsophy of inclusion and support. Our programmers encourage participation, elevate perspective that encourages personal challenges and addresses negative feelings and behaviors, including isolation, limited phusical activity, loneliness, and depression. The Joseph Meyerhoff Senior Center, Inc./Southeast Focal Point is a 501(c)(3) charitable agency. All donations are tax deductible. The project receives funding from Federal Older Americans Act funds and State General Revenue funds through the State of Florida Department of Elder Affairs and the Aging and Disability Resource Center/Area Agency on Aging of Broward County.
