This office offers Emergency Home Energy Assistance for the Elderly (EHEAP), helping low-income households with at least one person aged 60 and over when households experience a home energy emergency.
A home energy emergency may result from a late utility bill, lack of fuel or wood, or receipt of a shut-off notice.
The payments are intended for the heating or cooling of houses and other emerging energy costs during the heating season (October-March) and cooling (April-September).
Eligible households may be granted one benefit per season, up to $600 per season.
Program beneficiaries can receive vouchers to buy blankets, portable heaters, and fans.
The program can also help to pay for the repair of the existing heating or cooling equipment or for reconnection.
Eligibility:
Documented heating or cooling emergency,
At least one individual age 60 or older in the household,
An annual gross household income at or below 150 percent of the federal poverty guidelines.
