The Senior Citizens Nutrition Program provides nutritionally balanced meals on a donation basis to people who are 60 years of age and over. People less than 60 years old may eat at the center for the cost of the meal. It is a year round program with no income guidelines or any restrictions besides the age limit. Meals are served on site, carryouts are welcomed, or on a home-delivered basis when the senior is homebound. Educational, informational, and social activities are available in addition to nutrition. This program is partially funded by the Illinois Department on Aging (IDOA), the Southeastern IL Agency on Aging (AOA), and through participant contributions. The program operates congregate and home delivered meal sites in Crawford, Jasper and Richland counties. The Title IIIB program is a social service program, which includes information, referrals, and assistance available to provide VITA (Income Tax Assistance), Circuit Breaker, Insurance and Medicare Assistance, Pharmaceutical Assistance, Legal Aid for seniors, and Rules of the Road. Also transportation is available for age 60 plus, anywhere inside the city limits. ERBA has wheel chair lift vans available. Recreation for seniors such as pool, TV, exercise equipment, quilting, painting classes, carry in suppers, and bingo are some of the activities which are available. Activities vary at each center. The Title IIID program also promotes education, services, which include foot clinics, hearing aid services, and health equipment, which are provided as needed, and physical fitness programs such as bowling and exercise classes. These programs also vary at each center. Health screenings, weekly and monthly blood pressure clinics, and flue shots are accessible through the county nurse. Telephone reassurance provides phone calls to seniors to check for wellness and emotional support. Outreach services include home visits, which are made to assess clients needs and to encourage participation in the available services. This program is funded by the Illinois Department on Aging, and the Southeastern Illinois Agency On Aging. The services are available year round in Crawford, Jasper and Richland Counties.
