We continue to benefit from an Annual Grant from the states Executive Office of Elder Affairs, this year in the amount of $3300. The Wendell Council on Aging continued its long-standing service of providing Wendell Seniors with monthly blood pressure and BMI screenings and foot care service. In April we held our usual once-a-year cholesterol screening, and in November our usual once-a-year Flu Shot clinic. These once-a-year services are available thanks to the outreach of the Franklin County Home Care Corporation of Turners Falls. All these services are supported by our grant and are offered free to Wendell seniors. Occasional donations go into a Friends of the Wendell Council on Aging account for programming options and this year to help with Senior Center refurbishing. Each month the Council on Aging sends out a Newsletter to the 170+ Wendell citizens 60 and over offering news about our programs and information and advisories appropriate to seniors and sometimes even humor. This year the town supported a refurbishing of the former town library as the new Senior Center, and throughout the summer months senior volunteers worked on the clean-up and furnishing of our splendid new space. In October we surveyed our members on how they would wish to use and enjoy the new space, and the first week of November saw our well-attended double Grand Openings. We have plans for a range of new programming in the coming years. The Senior Center basement holds a variety of medical equipment available for borrowing for Wendell citizens of all ages. We look forward to sharing our new comfortable space with other town boards and groups and to seeking new ways that the Council on Aging can serve the Wendell community.
