Clothing, food and financial aid, need SS, proof of residence - The purpose of MAM's Emergency Assistance is to provide temporary basic needs support to families and individuals who find they have no other place to turn or are unaware of alternatives. MAM programming is divided into three areas: Family Assistance Programs, Self-Sufficiency Programs, and Programs for Children in School.. Family Assistance Programs - *RENT & UTILITY ASSISTANCE: Helps to pay rent and essential utilities for families in danger of eviction or utility cut-off. Clients seeking assistance with rent, or a water or gas bill, need an appointment to be seen: 713-574-7533; For Spanish: 713-574-7536. MEDICAL ASSISTANCE: Addresses urgent physical illness, mental illness, access to health care for uninsured patients, and preventive health. The goal is to prevent workplace absenteeism resulting in lost wages and school absences due to illness. CLOTHING : Vouchers to MAM Resale Store for up to $25 worth of adult clothing and $15 worth of children's clothing. Also new work-related clothing and footwear (scrubs, steel-toed boots, nursing shoes, etc.) may be purchased through local participating retailers. FOOD: Those who are hungry receive lunch bags and referrals to partner neighborhood food pantries who agree to help MAM clients. MAM staff provides food stamp (SNAP) application assistance. *TRANSPORTATION ASSISTANCE: Provides gasoline vouchers or Metro-money to facilitate travel to work, job interviews or medical appointments. MAM also partners in "Cycle2Success" which makes bicycles available to those who need regular transportation to work. MAM can also offer a variety of in-kind donations that can help to stretch a family budget such as toiletries, household cleaning products, disposable diapers, etc. Also ESL Classes, GED, Employment Services Program.
