The senior center program shines as the most visible program offered through the Central Missouri Area Agency on Aging (CMAAA).
The CMAAA currently sponsors 31 senior centers in its 19-county service area.
In many cases, a senior citizens' center becomes a focus for community involvement and offers numerous services, including:
A variety of recreational and social activities;
Health education and screening programs;
Exercise classes;
Information and emergency services;
Sufficient volunteer opportunities for people of all ages.
All senior centers have a Low Vision Resource Center for visually impaired people who need assistance in reading or doing manual work.
The Missouri Rehabilitation Services for the Blind provides visual aids that are available at the centers free of charge and as a short-term loan.
People love good food and like to get together for a meal.
So it is only logical that the most popular feature of a senior center is the Congregate Meal Program.
