A nutritional program to detect nutritionally "at risk" women, babies and children and to help prevent low birth-weight and premature babies, iron deficiency anemia, lack of development, obesity, etc. The WIC serves pregnant women, breastfeeding women (for one year) and postpartum women (for six months), as well as infants and children up to five years old.
WIC promotes breastfeeding and offers special feeding classes, individual counseling, frequent follow-up of at-risk clients, health evaluation, referrals to health and social services, and immunizations.
Nutrition and health education is also offered, as is limited nutritional health screening.
